The design approach for ‘In the Red and Brown Water’ was to focus on telling the story of these young tortured lives in a way that concealed their daily pain, while showing the reality of an everyday world. The show is set in a decrepit southern project where the heat of the day smoothers the souls of every one it touches. The set was designed in a way that allowed for the lighting to be able to tone and manipulate it in various ways all while being able to carve the characters out from the neutral setting. With the aid of R09 to act as the beating sun while being cut with E201 to fill in the shadows, I was able to fully sculpt these lives away from this crumbling environment. Other colors used in the design: R68, E119, E161 and R3150 (Lighting Designer: Robert Denton, Scenic Designer: Ruthmarie Tenorio, and Costume Designer: Aryna Petrashenko)
