The director, Michael Haverty, originally wanted no color in the lighting of this production. I, therefore, carefully used some varying shades of amber to get the different tones I wanted as front light. The Scenery and Costumes all used black, white, and purple only, so I was able to work with my other designers in the use of deep purple backlight (all while working within the sparseness of the production and the space). This production, based on the life of serial murder and cannibal Albert Fish, used both puppets and actors to truly affect the audience in a way few other productions can.
